Two of my favorite things will be in one package this April. NASCAR and guns! I have been invited to go to this race by a friend who grew up in Fort Worth, and now that the NRA is sponsoring the race I may just take her up on the offer! Yes, you heard it – The National Rifle Association will sponsor the April 13 Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, track president Eddie Gossage announced Monday during the 1.5-mile oval’s annual preseason media day. The race, shown live by Fox, will be renamed from the Texas 500 to the NRA 500. It will be the first Saturday prime-time event of the NASCAR Sprint Cup season. Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) is among the largest sporting venues in the United States, with seating capacity in excess of 190,000. All the tracks have something unique for the Victory Lane celebration. At Texas Motor Speedway, the winning driver poses with the trophy while firing two six shooter cap guns. It’s all in good fun, and takes us back to the days of cowboys out on the range, rustling cattle, and good ‘ole boys – well, and now a good ‘ole girl!
