Dick’s Sporting Goods, one of the largest sporting goods retailers in the world, says it has removed all guns from its store nearest to Newtown, Connecticut, and is suspending the sale of certain kinds of semi-automatic rifles from its chains nationwide.

The move was made out of respect for the victims and families of last week’s Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting “during this time of national mourning,” the store said in a statement Tuesday morning.

Some media reports, unconfirmed, say he shooter at Sandy Hook Elementary attempted to buy a rifle at Dick’s Sporting Goods a few days prior to the shooting, but was denied.

What do you think about this decision?

Not impressed with their business anyway, their firearms and ammo selection was poor. Now I won’t shop there, period.

  2. Hugh Dobkins says:

Another one of those knee-jerk reactions. Hope he likes taking home less money. I would not purchase anything from this store even if it changes its stance.

  3. Old NFO says:

Knee jerk is right… and good riddance, as their prices weren’t that good nor were their selections…

    • When I would check prices on things – I would check them out sometimes, but never actually bought anything from them anyway. I was in one somewhere, I think it was here in San Diego and it was disorganized, and the employees were not very customer service oriented anyway. I guess their stock started to go up after this announcement, I have a feeling that will not last over the longterm. They have just alienated a critical demographic!

  4. maybe they’ll have a good sale?
